Funding to the tune of £190,000 has been secured for the long awaited refurbishment of a former Dungannon Boxing Club.

Gardeners Hall, located in the Milltown area will now receive a range of refurbishment works including new kitchens, replacing the roof/windows, upgrading the electrics and improving the outside of the building and grounds.

Announcing the funding, Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland said "This is great news for the people of Dungannon and will provide real and significant benefits for residents in the Neighbourhood Renewal Area.

The Gardeners Hall will provide opportunities for residents to access a range of activities such as training and education schemes, health programmes and cross community activities.

The refurbishment work will allow the hall to be used by all ages within the Neighbourhood Renewal Area." Ulster Unionist party leader, Tom Elliott "long" and protracted process." The assemblyman continued: "This area in the South of Dungannon Town Centre has been neglected over many year and is listed as one of the most disadvantaged urban neighbourhoods in the district.

"The Milltown/Perry Street area has suffered in recent years through vacant houses and business premises and this facility will provide a focal point for people who live and work in the area."

The project will be managed by Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council. To date, the total amount of money spent on Neighbourhood Renewal in Dungannon is over £1.7 million.
