Tyrone Crystal For Sale03/03/2010
Amid growing speculation about the future of the crystal manufacturer in recent days, in a brief statement yesterday (Tuesday), the Directors of the company confirmed they are looking for a purchaser or an investor for the business. The tough economic climate over the past 12-18 months was cited as the driving factor behind the decision. It is understood its 37 employees were informed of the decision on Friday last. The company, which is due to celebrate its 40th anniversary next year, has enjoyed great success since first it first began operating in 1971. Aside from providing a popular wedding gift, Tyrone Crystal has been presented as awards at some of the most prestigious sporting events in the world including the Augusta masters PGA golf tournament, the Detroit Grand Prix motor race, the World Match Play snooker championships and the Canadian Formula one Grand Prix. The company has also tried to market itself as a tourist attraction over the past decade, opening a new £500,000 visitor's centre in 2001. After facing difficulties four years ago it was saved when it was bought by a group of businessmen led by Peter Maginnis and Nigel Blackburn, some time after it had been subject to a management buyout. However with the popularity of crystal giftware not as strong as it was, the future of the one thriving business is now looking less certain. Source: Tyrone Courier Back to News List
