Dungannon Public Broadband Seminar26/06/2012
Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council has over a period of 2 years considered the provision of Broadband within the Borough Council area as a priority issue particularly for rural businesses. Council activated a Broadband Survey in December 2011 in order to capture data with regard to black spot areas. This data was presented to the Minister for Enterprise Arlene Foster in April 2012 by elected members and Council officials and as a follow up to this exercise Council will host a Broadband Seminar on Thursday 28th June 2012 at 7pm Venue: South West College Dungannon. Guest speakers from the Department of Enterprise Trade & Investment, BT, North West Electronics, Logon NI and On Wave Satellite Services will be in attendance with an opportunity for participants to put questions to the panel. Mayor Councillor Phelim Gildernew commented; "Rural SMEs and residences have consistently approached elected members with concerns about 'poor' Broadband services, this in itself puts rural SMEs at a competitive disadvantage in the market place and especially as markets are now on a global basis. This event will provide a platform for local residents, businesses, community organisations and others to put their views forward" Acting Chief Executive Iain Frazer encourages attendance at the seminar and stated "As we move forward in the development of electronic infrastructure many Government agencies are using on-line data systems to capture information for example VAT returns and livestock registrations. It would be appropriate to come and hear the latest news in respect of Broadband connections in the Borough Council area".
