Litter Clean-Up bill will take £10,000, Council told. Dungannon Council has estimated that it will take almost £10,000 to clean up litter at three sites in the Borough. A total of 35 cubic metres of cat litter and one-and-a-half skip loads of domestic waste lies at two sites at the Derryhubbert Road and one at the Derrycor / Sandy Rampart Road outside Dungannon. In a report presented by Director of Technical Services Bertie McMinn at a recent meeting of the Council's Public Services Committee, it was heard that the cost of processing the cat litter would average at £8,750, while loading costs with track machine were estimated at £168. In addition the disposal of approximately two tonnes of household water from the three sites would cost in the region of £140. At an earlier meeting, it was stated that £20,000 had been set aside to deal with issues such as this. Members felt that it would be important to push The Northern Ireland Environmental Agency (NIEA) to deal with the issue and questioned if Council employees were trained and insured to deal with contaminated waste. Members were however informed at the meeting of The Public Services Committee that NIEA had said it was not its responsibility. Members agreed to write to the Environment Minister over the matter.
