Royal School Dungannon in celebration mood

26/08/2008

"NI pupils achieved 10% more A grades and had a significantly higher overall pass rate than England, Scotland and Wales with their largely comprehensive systems. There is also a far greater number going into University here than in any other part, something which benefits many more pupils from less advantaged homes," he said.

RSD this year has seen its best ever results, with over 70% of all subjects passed with the top two grades. "We have seen a large number of pupils raise their standards through committed hard work and dedication under their inspiring teachers, and this applies to the average as well as the high flying academic pupils," he added. "We also have been extremely gratified by the AS results achieved by our Lower Sixth Form pupils, displaying much promise their final year ahead. "What is more, all this has been achieved against a backdrop of our usual extra curricular programme, the enormous number of activities connected to the Quatercentenary celebratory events and a major tour to New Zealand and Australia."

"We congratulate all those pupils who were successful and wish them well as they go up to university of off on a Gap year to other parts of the world."

No fewer than nine pupils (six girls and three boys) gained 3 or 4 A grades. Another eleven pupils (six girls and five boys) had 2As and a B grade. Three of the straight As pupils were from Asia, working in a different language to their mother tongue. Over 80% of the RSD Sixth Formers have been placed in their chosen university courses. Others will know if they have been successful as the clearing system proceeds.
