Dungannon Leisure Centre, Circular Road, Dungannon
Instructor - Feijaozinho
Registration at Dungannon Leisure Centre - £15 for the 6 weeks
Only 25 - 30 places available (open to children and adults)
It consists of four main sections:
- Warm up
Traditional warm up exercises combined with samba- reggae and Brazilian music, where students are following the movements of the teacher. The exercises are done in a more playful way so that the students are carried away by the rhythm, overcoming their shyness or embarrassment.
- Capoeira Routines
The main part of the workshop, where the teachers are showing and teaching the students various capoeira movements, which range from simple kicks to acrobatic and athletic movements like cartwheels, handstands, flips and head or hand spins. The teachers are professionally trained, so they know exactly how to approach the explanation and demonstration of each movement, so that each student would not be afraid to try it.
- Music
Students are told about the importance of the music in capoeira. It sets the tempo and style of the game that is to be played within the Roda.
Also, it is important to be familiar with the main instruments which are used like berimbaus, pandeiros(tambourine) and atabaque(drums).
Sometimes the teacher might show basic bits on the pandeiro (tambourine) or atabaque(drums), so that the students can try to play the instruments.
And another important thing is to know the songs which are sang in Rodas only in Portuguese. Usually they are quite easy to memorize, so after few times of pronouncing the words, the students are able to sing.
- Roda
The ending of each training as well as of each workshop consists of the Roda (playing in the circle), where there is music, instruments, singing and the game of two people in the middle of the Roda. This is the time when the students can demonstrate their new capoeira skills learned in the class/workshop.
The game can be slow, consisting of only certain movements (Angola) or it can be fast with mostly kicks, flips and acrobatic movements (Regional).
